Other Home Remedies for Bunions
1. Olive Oil
Massage the bunion twice a day for about 15 minutes with warm olive oil. This helps improve blood circulation and regulate the flow of synovial fluid in the joints. The synovial fluid helps improve the bones’ movement.
2. Red Pepper
Rub a slice of red pepper on the bunion as it’s effective in reducing pain around the joints. Apply some Vaseline over it and cover it with a bandage cloth. You should do this twice a day for pain relief.
3. Castor Oil
Known for its anti-inflammatory properties, massaging with hot castor oil can also help ease discomfort and pain caused by the bunions. After massaging, wrap a thin cloth around it and cover with a towel. Practice this twice a day to see improvement in the pain.
4. Pineapple
Make a paste of a few pieces of pineapple and apply it directly to the bunion. Keep it for 30-60 minutes, and then wash it off with water. Bromelain is an enzyme found in pineapple which can reduce pain and swelling. It has anti-inflammatory properties, which can help reduce the appearance of the bunion.
5. Turmeric
Like pineapple, turmeric paste can help treat extreme inflammation in joints. Make a paste of one tablespoon of honey and some drops of water and apply it directly and leave for 30 minutes. Wash it with water and practice this regime twice a day to ease the pain.
6. Ice Pack
Ice packs are effective in treating swelling and can similarly be used to treat the swelling around the bunions. Take an ice cube and rub it around the bunion, this will ease the pain by numbing the area and can help reduce the swelling too.
