Houses with glass windows often struggle to maintain privacy. Though curtains are the go-to option for this purpose, they can be a bit difficult to manage sometimes. That’s why if you are planning to frost windows but can’t afford the professional installation, learn how to inexpensively frost windows at home below.

How to Frost a Window with Cornstarch?

Cornstarch

Things You’ll Need

  • One Tablespoon of Cornstarch
  • One Tablespoon of Cold Water
  • 3/4 Cup of Boiling Water
  • Painter’s Tape
  • Tissue Paper or a Piece of Fabric
  • Paintbrush
  • Scissors
  • Cutter
  • Spoon
  • Bowl

Instructions

  1. Before starting this hack, clean your window thoroughly with a glass cleaner.
  2. Cut pieces of tissue paper according to the size of window glass panes.
  3. Next, combine a tablespoon of cornstarch and cold water in a bowl to make a thick paste.
  4. After that, gradually add 3/4 cup of boiling water to the cornstarch paste and mix it well with a spoon until you get an even consistency.
  5. Once you’re done, coat a layer of the prepared paste all over the window glass with a paintbrush.
  6. Next, place the tissue paper over it and apply a layer of the same mixture to the tissue paper. You can paste another layer of paper, depending on how much privacy you need.
  7. When the paper dries, trim the excess present on the window edges with a cutter, and don’t forget to take off the painter’s tape.

Note – You can also use a fine piece of fabric or lace instead of tissue paper for this inexpensive window treatment.

Precautions to Consider

  • Handle boiling water with care to avoid burns.
  • Apply the paste evenly to avoid streaks and bubbles.
  • Test a small window area first to ensure you like the frosted look before applying it to the entire window.
