Ways to Prevent Pimple Breakouts

Pimple Breakouts

There are many ways through which you can keep your acne breakouts in check. Little lifestyle changes and good habits can work wonders in the long run to give you clear skin. Here are a few of the ways by which you can avoid pimple breakouts:

1. Wash your Face

Keeping your face clean and moisturized is one of the best ways to keep acne at bay. It does not let dirt or oil build-up on your face. Wash your face twice daily.

2. Avoid Acne Causing Food

A sugary and high in carbohydrates diet can lead to acne breakouts. Avoid cakes, cookies, and high cream dairy products to avoid pimples.

3. Reducing Stress

Stress can cause inflammation and hence acne breakouts. Try meditating, exercising, or reading to reduce stress.

4. Check your Hormonal Balance

Especially an issue with women, it is important to get checked by the doctor on hormonal imbalance if nothing is working for you to get rid of pimples.

5. Avoid Using Makeup

Most of the makeup products have comedogenic properties which can trigger pimple breakouts. Do not wear makeup for longer periods and also make sure to use clean brushes for applying makeup.

6. Stay Safe from the Sun

UV rays from the sun can cause inflammation and redness, which can lead to pimples. Always apply sunscreen when out in the sun.

7. Keep your Hands Away From your Face

One of the most difficult habits to abide by, but also one of the most effective ones. Our hands are a house of bacteria and touching your face with your hands can only trigger acne.

8. Keep Anything that Touches your Face Clean

Whether it is your hair, pillowcases, your phone, make sure you keep them clean to avoid the bacteria and dirt from them clog the pores on your face.

1. Aloe Vera Gel

Moisturizing with aloe-vera gel can reduce inflammation in the skin and fight bacteria that can cause acne. You can apply aloe vera gel on your face and wash after 15 minutes, or it can be used as a night gel as well to be applied as a thick layer overnight.

2. Green Tea

Antioxidants in green tea help reduce excessive sebum production, which might be causing clogging of pores. While drinking green tea also helps, applying it directly can provide quick solutions. Cool green tea and apply it all over your face using a cotton ball. You can also spray it over your face using a spray bottle. Leave for 10 minutes and wash with lukewarm water.

3. Tea Tree Oil

One of the most effective ingredients that proved to be extremely helpful in fighting certain kinds of bacteria is tea-tree oil. Its anti-bacterial properties can help in treating mild to moderate acne. Just dab it on the pimple or mix with a carrier such as coconut oil before applying it to your face. Wash off after a few hours.

4. Ice

Wrap an ice cube in a fine cloth and apply to the face. Ice can help tighten the pores, which can help avoid excessive oil and dirt from being trapped on your face. It is not recommended to use ice for a longer time on one part of the skin.

5. Turmeric

Apply a face pack of turmeric and honey for just 5 minutes to shrink pimples. Turmeric has anti-inflammatory properties which can help reduce the size of acne.

6. Vitamin C

You can apply a mask of vitamin c rich fruits such as oranges, kiwis, lime, strawberries to get rid of acne, as citric acid helps dry out the excess sebum on the skin.

7. Gram Flour

A commonly used ingredient for better skin health, a face pack made of just gram flour and water can absorb excess oil from the skin. Apply for just 10 minutes and rinse off.

Ingredients to Avoid on Pimples

1. Coconut Oil

Even though coconut oil has been treated as a key ingredient for skin and hair health, but people with acne-prone skin should avoid using it on their face as it can clog pores. Clogged pores do not let dirt come out of the skin and cause acne to build up.

2. Fragrance

Any product having artificial fragrances should be avoided to be used on acne. Most of the fragrances can cause itchy skin, which can aggravate pimples.

3. Cocoa Butter

Used as a key ingredient in body moisturizers, cocoa butter can cause more harm to your acne-prone skin. Like coconut oil, it is extremely comedogenic and can clog pores.
