While the fruit is great, does it have the same benefits for your skin? Know whether does avocado oil clog pores or is a miracle solution for all your skin woes.
Avocado oil is a rich source of Omega 9 fatty acids, Vitamins A, E, and D, along with several skin-benefitting nutrients. However, the fruit oil is also rich in oleic acid, which makes it highly potent for oily skin and can lead to clogged pores. The oil is, therefore, a blessing for mature, normal, and dry skin. It can also be used for the acne-prone and sensitive skin type, but in minimal quantities.
The Comedogenic Rating of Avocado Oil
Avocado oil has a medium comedogenic index and comes at 3 on the comedogenic scale. Any oil above the rating of two on the scale has higher risks of clogging the pores. In simple words, avocado oil does have a tendency to clog your skin’s pores.
However, the moderately comedogenic oil is very beneficial for the skin, especially for people dealing with active acne and skin conditions like eczema. Even as the oil might not be ideal for oily and combination skin, it does have fantastic benefits for other skin types.
Benefits of Avocado Oil
1. Moisturizes and Nourishes Skin
The oil is a rich source of Vitamin E. In addition to that, the oil has several nutrients, including potassium and lecithin, that keeps the skin nourished and moisturized. These nutrients are absorbed by the top layer of the skin, forming a barrier that keeps the skin hydrated and nourished.
2. Treats Psoriasis and Eczema
The antioxidants and vitamins present in avocado oil heals and moisturizes dry and flaky skin. The antioxidant properties also address various skin issues, from mild irritations to severe problems like eczema and psoriasis.
3. Treats and Prevents Acne
Even as the oil is comedogenic, it can help prevent and treat acne-prone skin when used in the right way. Left on the skin surface for shorter duration and rinsed off properly with warm water, avocado oil is an ideal ingredient that cleanses and hydrates the skin. The anti-inflammatory properties of the oil treat and reduce the red spots and inflammation caused by acne.
4. Boosts Collagen Synthesis
Avocado oil promotes collagen synthesis, a process that stimulates the production of new connective tissues and speeds up the healing process of the skin. Not only does this help in healing the scars, but it also results in radiant, supple skin.
5. Reduces Signs of Aging
Rich in fatty acids like linoleic acid and oleic acid, avocado oil helps the skin retain its elasticity. These nutrients also help in reducing the signs of aging like wrinkles and fine lines.
